Gilles Villeneuve Circuit

A motor racing circuit located on Île Notre-Dame, famous for hosting the Formula One Canadian Grand Prix.

Montreal, QC 310

In 1978, the Canadian Grand Prix found a new, permanent home on a purpose-built circuit on Île Notre-Dame, a man-made island within Parc Jean-Drapeau. The track, initially known as the Île Notre-Dame Circuit, was designed to incorporate existing park roads, creating a unique challenge for Formula One drivers. The inaugural race on October 8, 1978, was a momentous occasion, not least because it saw Canadian hero Gilles Villeneuve claim his first-ever Formula One victory. The roar of the engines and the cheers of the crowd echoed across the St. Lawrence River, establishing the circuit as a major international racing venue. Following Villeneuve's tragic death in 1982, the circuit was posthumously renamed in his honor, forever linking his legacy with the thrilling annual spectacle of the Canadian Grand Prix.
